Little Readers
Free printable packs that teach young kids to read: phonics in English, one letter sound per pack, and syllables in Spanish (ma, me, mi…). We made them for our 2- and 4-year-olds, and for you.

How to make one
Print it
Print on letter paper, both sides, flipping on the short edge. Your print menu may call it:
- Flip on short edge
- Short-edge binding
- Double-sided: On (Short Edge)
Not long edge, or the backs print upside down and out of line with the fronts. And print at actual size (100%), not “Fit to page.”

Then, in any order:
The basket

Write a name on the label. Cut straight across the page on the solid line. Everything below it is your square, white edges and all, so don't trim them.

Cut the handle strip out of the top piece.

Pattern side down, fold the square in half and open it. Then fold it in half the other way and open it.

Fold all four corners into the middle.

Fold one edge to the middle line and open it again. Do the same with the other three edges.

Open out two opposite corners. Stand the two long sides up as walls.

Push one open end up into a wall and fold its point over, down into the middle. Do the same at the other end.

Tape the handle inside two opposite walls.

Done!
The little book
Cut on the solid lines only; the dotted lines are folds. Stack the four pieces by the numbers in their top right corners: the cover on top, then 3, 5, 7. Fold the stack in half and staple once in the fold, with a regular stapler from the top edge or a long-reach one. You read the story; your child reads the words in the pictures.

The picture coins
Cut them out. Does the picture start with the letter's sound? Flip it to check: Leo's thumbs-up means yes.

The writing strip
Trace the letter until the dots run out.

The letter tiles
From lesson 3. Cut them out and make words.
